Human Services primarily refer to preparing for
employment and then the procurement of a job or career. There are
also vocational rehabilitation organizations and labor unions. In
addition to these important groups there are over 500 support
organizations to choose from in this category. Most people strive
to be a well functioning part of society and in order to achieve that
goal, there is usually job training and employment required. This
group enables people to become part of the working class and then
protects them with labor unions.
This is the fun category that you might not think
needs funding. These groups support camps, training facilities,
amateur sports and competitions, physical fitness test, sports
associations and recreational clubs. They even have organizations
to aid in the funding of professional athletic leagues. All
of these organizations are dedicated to the continued fitness of our
country and need your help whether it be to fund summer camps for
children or for your state's professional basketball team.
Human Services is geared to the overall well-being of
children and adults. There are children and youth services, family
services, personal social services, and emergency assistance
organizations. You can also find adult day programs and
residential care along with centers that support the independence of
senior citizens. This group supports the needs of people from
childhood to adulthood in all aspects of their physical and mental care.
Housing & Shelter is a category that some might take
for granted. If you've never needed someone to help you find a
place to live or needed somewhere temporarily to live after a natural
disaster or fire, you may not have given much thought to this group.
These organizations can be the life line that you need for you and your
family in case of an emergency or a decline in the economy. These
groups support housing development & construction, temporary housing,
housing search assistance, homeowners & tenants associations.
Youth development encompasses many different areas.
It includes youth centers and clubs, scouting programs for girls and
boys, adult and child matching programs, and youth development programs
that guide children and teens both physically and emotionally.
This is the category that includes boys and girls clubs, big brother/big
sister programs, recreation programs and church youth camps. These
programs are essential in some communities where there are "at risk"
children and "latch-key" kids. This, in some situations,
may be the one thing they can
count on.
This category is just as it sounds. It focuses
on the centers, programs, and correctional facilities dealing with those
who are currently incarcerated or have been imprisoned in the past.
There are programs for those who are trying to rehabilitate themselves and get
their life back on track, legal services, crime prevention programs, and
law enforcement. There are many organizations to support law
enforcement, administration of justice and many who fund the protection
and ending of abuse. These are the groups that help make our world
a safer place.
Food, Agriculture, and Nutrition are usually topics
we don't consider when we think about donating. With today's fast-paced environment, we eat at
restaurants several times a week and drive thru fast-food restaurants on
the way to take one of the kids to practice, that we forget what we're
eating, how it got there, and that someone had to approve that it is
safe. This category supports all of the agriculture programs, food
programs, home economics, and nutrition programs. There are also
many organizations here that support Food Banks to feed the hungry.
Public Safety & Disaster Preparedness includes
automotive safety programs, crime prevention, first aid classes and
supplies, and fire safety. Other crucial programs are search and
rescue squads and many groups throughout the country, which many
are volunteers, who are called upon during disasters such as tornadoes,
hurricanes, floods, fire and snow to assist people to safety and help
clean up after the disaster is over. There are also over 800
support organizations to assist in this category.
